FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Friday, September 10th, the Central Cross Country Skiing, Inc(CXC) and the City of Middleton held a groundbreaking ceremony to begin construction of the CXC Outdoor Recreation & Sports Center.
The crowd of supporters who attended the event included Middleton Mayor Gudrup Brar, WI State Representative Diane Hesselbein, members of the City Council, and Anne Sayers, the new secretary designee for the Department of Tourism. Also in attendance were Dan and Natalie Erdman, who have donated a portion of their land to the Center, the CXC Foundation President, Don Becker, and other notable donors.
Situated on rolling land just north of Pleasant View Golf Course, the Center will feature an outdoor community center with accessible design and a conservation ethic. With a network of trails for cross country skiing, competitions, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and hiking, as well as the City’s planned mountain bike park and trailhead amenities, the Center will offer a turn-key outdoor venue for sporting events, training, and a year-round focus on recreation and educational programming.
With construction beginning on Monday, September 13th, the initial development phase will include an access drive connecting the Center to Highway 14 from Schwartz Road and a parking lot and trail development.
The next phase will add lighting and snowmaking infrastructure on the 1.2km section of the trail with the goal to make snow this coming winter. The active fundraising campaign is underway for this phase, with almost half of the funds secured from the needed $500,000 goal.
