Mayors and supporters cheer Madison Reading Project’s new Book Center

On a spectacularly warm and sunny May morning, Madison Reading Project staff and supporters cut the ribbon to open a spacious new Book Center located at 1337 Greenway Cross on Madison’s southside.

Along with the celebration of the new book storage, display and workspace, Madison Reading Project proudly announced that during the past week, the nonprofit gave away its 200,000th book since founding in 2013.

“Our new Book Center has expanded room to store books and package them for delivery to even more kids who need them,” says Rowan Childs, founder and executive director. “Our communities, local businesses, foundations, and individuals have been extremely generous giving books and monetary donations. Many came today to show their continuing support.”

“As our Big Red Reading Bus rolls out this summer, we expect to set new records in reaching children, birth to age 18, with free books,” Childs adds. “We’ll be at Ride the Drive and visiting several community locations in the coming weeks.”
