Founding of Taliesin Preservation:
Taliesin Preservation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1993 (previously the Taliesin Preservation Commission) by Governor Tommy Thompson through an agreement with the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) and the property owners, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.

Upon its founding, and with an $8 million loan from WHEDA, the organization set out to achieve the following objectives: 1) To purchase the Riverview Terrace to create a Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor Center; 2) To develop a tour program, gift shop, and cafe to open the Taliesin estate to the public; 3) To use funds from public programming to support the preservation of the Taliesin estate; and 4) To provide ongoing preservation resources to support preservation work.

In 1993, Taliesin Preservation began offering formal tours of the estate. Since then, Taliesin Preservation has invested over $11M into the preservation of the Taliesin property and led the way to removing it from the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Most Endangered Historic Places List (2011). In 2012, Taliesin Preservation repaid $6M of their initial $8M loan to WHEDA, and the parties agreed the remaining $2M would be reinvested into the estate and forgiven.

We hope you can join us on Saturday, June 10th, as we commemorate this momentous occasion and celebrate Frank Lloyd Wright’s 156th birthday on the Taliesin estate! Taliesin Preservation is a Wisconsin-based 501(c)(3) founded in 1993. Its mission is to preserve Taliesin’s natural, built, and cultural environments through educational and cultural programming and provide a greater understanding of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architecture and ideas. In 2019, Taliesin was designated as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site for ‘The 20th Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright.’
