Northwestern Mutual – Southern Wisconsin Strengthens Commitment To End Childhood Cancer Donating $60,000 to Garding Against Cancer
Grant funding will support local childhood cancer organization
MIDDLETON, WI — Sept. 28, 2021 – This year alone, more than 15,000 children will be diagnosed with childhood cancer. Northwestern Mutual, along with its financial advisors and employees, is devoted to accelerating the search for better treatments and cures for childhood cancer, while also supporting families battling the disease and survivors struggling with the late effects of treatment. Through its Foundation, the company is recognizing seven of its offices for their notable support of the cause through the 2021 Childhood Cancer Impact Awards.
Northwestern Mutual – Southern Wisconsin has been recognized as one of the company’s 2021 Childhood Cancer Impact Award recipients, receiving a $50,000 grant on behalf of Garding Against Cancer to support cancer research, treatment and patient care in Wisconsin.
“Nationwide, our advisors and staff continue to demonstrate that their offices are more than just a place to work, but a place where they can make a difference in their community and in the lives of others,” said Eric Christophersen, president, Northwestern Mutual Foundation. “We’re honored to recognize our passionate and dedicated advisors as they continue to go above and beyond in their efforts to help create better outcomes for children with cancer.”
Since 2016, the Northwestern Mutual – Southern Wisconsin office has been advocating for childhood cancer by involvement in each phase that impacts the disease: treatment, research and overall support of patients. Through the office’s Community Impact Council, the office has been able to support multiple nonprofit partners including Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation and local hospitals Badger Childhood Cancer Network, Fianna Foundation and American Family Children's Hospital. Additionally, the Southern Wisconsin team, including their other network offices in Delafield and Janesville, have hosted multiple golf outings, lemonade stand events and sponsored four families in an effort to help raise awareness and funding for pediatric cancer. Through the office’s fundraising efforts, an additional $10,000 will be donated to Garding Against Cancer along with the $50,000 grant for a grand total donation of $60,000.
“Knowing that our involvement has a direct impact on our local community, as well as across the nation, has inspired our office to continue to do our part in finding a cure for childhood cancer,” said Sandy Botcher, managing director at Northwestern Mutual – Southern Wisconsin. “We are thankful to be a recipient of this award which will help us continue to make an impact on our community and raise awareness for childhood cancer.”
Since 2012, the Northwestern Mutual Childhood Cancer Program has contributed more than $35 million in funding to find better treatments and cures, providing family and patient support and aiding those who continue to struggle with long-term effects of cancer treatment. Since 2014, the company’s Childhood Cancer Impact Awards has donated $2,295,000 in grants on behalf of the winning offices to childhood cancer nonprofits nationwide.
